London Diaries: American Dad

by Paras G. on September 21st, 2009

I love coming to London, not just for the cultural buzz one gets to experience here but also to check out what’s new in my coolest cousin’s ever expanding library of music, TV shows, films and books.

This time around, I’ve discovered American Dad, a satirical animated series á la The Simpsons and created by the same people that are behind Family Guy. It’s about an American family of four headed by Stan Smith, an “ultra-right-wing C.I.A. agent” and his hilarious capers in keeping USA safe.

American Dad - The Family

My favourite character of the show has to be Roger, an alien that saved Stan’s life and now lives illegally with the Smith family. He resents not being able to leave the house and so distracts himself with trash TV and lots of alcohol. What’s funny about Roger is his sarcasm and the way he speaks (good job with the voice-over, Seth MacFarlane). I also find the situations that he gets himself into quite humorous (e.g. being bought by an Arab merchant for a sheikh in Saudi Arabia or trying to destroy the life of his own alter ego after discovering a purchase on his credit card that he didn’t make).

Right, now that I’ve shared this discovery, I should get back to watching Volume 2. You should go watch a few episodes yourself, over at the American Dad website. God Bless America!
