Typedia: A Shared Encyclopaedia Of Typefaces
I was browsing through Jason Santa Maria’s blog the other day for ideas on journal musings when I hit upon an incredible resource for print and web designers.
Apparently, Jason has, with the help of his friends, put together a website called Typedia that acts as a shared encyclopaedia of typefaces. Think of it as a Wikipedia for fonts. According to the website itself, “Typedia is a resource to classify, categorize, and connect typefaces”.
Here is a screen-shot from it’s current home page:
To know more, read about Jason’s labour of love in the original article here and then head over to the Typedia website to do your bit in adding information to the typeface database.
Methinks this will be a great resource not only for designers in need of an efficient system to hunt down quality fonts for projects but also for students conducting serious typographical research.
Also, I just love the Typedia logo. An article from John Langdon, the designer responsible for it, tells us how the logo came about.
Well done Jason and team!
